University of Basrah Launches Awareness Campaign to Curb Suicide Phenomenon

The Department of Media and Governmental Communication at the University of Basrah has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign to address the phenomenon of suicide, as part of its efforts to promote mental health among students, staff, and the local community.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of psychological support and methods of preventing suicidal thoughts.

This initiative stems from the university’s responsibility to provide a safe and supportive academic environment for its faculty, staff, and students.

The campaign includes a series of interactive activities targeting students in particular, such as specialized workshops in various colleges, educational seminars on recognizing signs of depression and ways to provide support, as well as activating the role of psychological counseling units within the university campus.

In his statement, Assistant Lecturer Haider Abdul Ameer Al-Wuhailee, Director of the Department of Media and Governmental Communication, emphasized that “The University of Basrah is not merely an academic institution; it is a community entity responsible for protecting its members and extending a helping hand to them.” He added that the university is committed to breaking the silence around mental health issues and encouraging everyone to speak up and seek help without hesitation.
