The Continuing Education Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture titled “Urban Expansion and Its Impact on the Decline of Agricultural Land,” which addressed the concept of urban expansion, its geographical, economic, and social dimensions, and analyzed its effects on local food security.

The lecture aimed to raise participants’ awareness of the importance of land-use management and sustainable planning to achieve a balance between urban development and the preservation of agricultural lands.

Delivered by instructor Iman Taha Abdulhassan, the session included case studies from various Iraqi provinces and proposed planning solutions to limit unplanned urban sprawl through the use of modern geographic information technologies (GIS).
