The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the College of Engineering, organized a workshop titled “The Legal Role of Universities in Combating the Drug Phenomenon.”

The workshop aimed to raise students’ awareness about the dangers of drug use and trafficking, while emphasizing the responsibility of governmental and educational institutions in confronting this crime.

Presented by Hussein Jassim Shati, the workshop addressed the legal definition of drug-related crimes and their impact on individuals and society, in addition to highlighting the ethical and legal duty of universities to promote preventive awareness.

The workshop recommended updating relevant legislation, strengthening cooperation between universities and judicial authorities, and establishing university-based legal centers concerned with awareness and legal support.
