The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the College of Dentistry, held a specialized online lecture entitled “Thyroid Disorders and Their Impact on Dental Health.”

The lecture aimed to enhance the diagnostic skills of dentists, improve the quality of healthcare services, and reduce complications associated with dental treatments.

The lecture, delivered by lecturer Rana Hassan Abdul Majeed, addressed an overview of the thyroid gland, the causes and types of its disorders—namely hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism—along with their relationship to oral and dental health, as well as methods of prevention and treatment.

The lecture recommended the necessity of conducting routine neck examinations as part of the clinical assessment, organizing educational sessions for patients, and performing periodic tests to monitor thyroid hormone levels.
