The Continuing Education and Development Center at the University of Basra organized an online workshop on identity in Western political discourse.
The aim of the workshop, which is presented by Dr. Ali Abdul Hamid Faris Al-Asadi, is to introduce the listener to the plurality of identity in Western political discourse.
The workshop included the speech of the former British Prime Minister (Terraza May), as an example, about Britain's Brexit from the European Union.
The study sheds light on Tirza's attempt to establish three identities: (national, European, and global).
The study concluded that priority is given to the national and European identities; As cultural belonging, intellectual, and civilizational affiliation. The study also found that the formation of identity does not come from nothingness. It is an accumulated intellectual and cultural product.
In the end, the recommendation was to continue researching the concept of identity which has a role in establishing societal peace
