
The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basra organized a course on journalism and media.
The aim of the course is to update the information of the trainees and inform them of the tools of modern media publishing to create an element of competition between the media of government institutions and the private media, while developing solutions to improve the status of government media.
The course, presented by the journalist Muhammad Al-Asadi, included the history of the emergence of the press, the difference between the media professional and the journalist, principles, values and journalistic standards agreed upon in international press laws and conventions, methods of writing news and choosing the best institutional template for the recipient, and drawing news from its reliable sources, with practical exercises in mastering Press interview skills and avoiding common mistakes among program presenters and field correspondents.
In the end, the recommendation was that one of the halls of the center should be used by establishing audio and video laboratories to train media professionals of government institutions in the arts of audiovisual journalism, as well as urging government institutions to conduct on-site coexistences for their affiliates in radio stations and satellite channels offices operating in Basra, similar to the summer training for school students to provide them with Journalism skills and the transfer of experience to the departments in which they work.
