Basra University organizes a lecture on the International Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basra organized an online lecture on the International Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

The objective of the lecture is to provide a platform for road traffic victims and their families.

The lecture, which was given by the Traffic Colonel Salah Al-Asadi, included the Public Relations and Media Officer at the Traffic Directorate of Basra Governorate

Defining this World Road Traffic Victims Memorial 2021 highlights the reduction in traffic - lower speeds, which have the potential to prevent many deaths and serious injuries, particularly those of pedestrians and all road users at risk - children, the elderly and the disabled, since Adoption of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Road Traffic Accidents, pursuant to General Assembly resolution 60/5, the observance of the occasion has spread to an increasing number of countries on all continents.

Today, the observance of this occasion has become a means of gaining importance in the global efforts adopted by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/74/299 “Improving global road safety”, declaring the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, with the ambitious goal of: Prevent at least 50% of road accident deaths. and injuries by 2030. WHO and UN regional commissions, together with other partners in the UN Road Safety Collaboration, have developed a Global Plan for the Decade of Action. To reduce road injuries. It is an opportunity to draw attention to the devastating emotional impact of these accidents and the economic burdens that follow, and to reflect on the suffering of the victims and to provide them with support mechanisms and intervention and rescue services
