
The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basra organized a workshop on the importance of smart libraries in encouraging students to read and providing them with information compared to traditional libraries. The aim of the workshop is to help students learn about smart libraries and their attractiveness to them for obtaining information that increases their knowledge and ideas. Additionally, it aims to increase visits to libraries and use of time in investing in information and acquiring knowledge, meeting the information requests of users, using modern information technology. The smart library contains historical data about readers, which is collected by the learning support system. Through the analysis of reader data, the workshop presented by Dr. Arfat Nasser Jasim Al-Youssef covered the definition of smart libraries, their importance, their main components, how to access them, and how to obtain books and knowledge from them, as well as the difference between them and digital libraries and traditional libraries. Finally, the recommendation was to create smart libraries in Iraq, especially in the province of Basra, because they contribute to attracting young people to gain knowledge at higher rates and other age groups of researchers, as the current generation is the generation of technologies and artificial intelligence, which takes up a large part of their usage
