The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basra organized a lecture on psychological measurement and evaluation. The goal of the lecture, which is part of a developmental training course for faculty members, is to introduce the skills and requirements of university teaching and its mechanisms. The lecture, presented by Dr. Ayad Ismail Saleh, covered the cognitive organization field, including measures of abilities and preparedness, which are divided into preparedness measures, achievement measures, intelligence, and abilities. The objectives of psychological measurement were discussed, including description (survey) and diagnosis based on student scores on tests and predicting personality, which can predict how individuals will behave in different situations. The scientific foundations of psychological measurement for behavior and performance were also discussed. Psychological measurement isolates traits and characteristics. Traits do not exist in isolation from one another in nature, but are interconnected and intertwined. Intelligence, social maturity, academic achievement, physical maturity, and other factors are intertwined. Therefore, measuring intelligence requires isolating it from other traits so that the estimates we reach are accurate in expressing intelligence quantitatively without other traits. The lecture concluded with a recommendation for the need to continue courses and workshops to keep up with the developments in university teaching
