The Continuous Education and Development Center at the University of Basra organized a lecture on measurement, evaluation, and assessment, the fourth unit in the updated curriculum teaching methods course for the southern region's applied specialization.

 

The lecture, presented by Dr. Zainab Jalee Khalaf and Dr. Inaam Mahmoud Najm from the College of Science at the University of Basra, aimed to clarify the key concepts of measurement, evaluation, and assessment. It also focused on the role of feedback and the use of rubrics to enhance educational performance.

 

The lecture covered four main axes: measurement, evaluation, assessment, feedback, and rubric. General introduction and types of learning, Bloom's taxonomy highlighting the importance of measurement and evaluation in the learning context, and defining the expected goals of the lecture were discussed.

 

Different types of measurement tools, a discussion activity, and the evaluation axis defining evaluation and its role were presented. The lecture also explained how to use evaluation tools, followed by an activity, discussion, and the assessment axis. The concept of assessment and examples of its application in the educational process were covered. The feedback and rubric axis emphasized the importance of providing feedback to students, explaining the concept of rubric, how to prepare it, and activities, discussions, and tasks related to the lecture's axes.

 

In conclusion, the recommendation emphasized the encouragement of comprehensive use of assessment tools, promoting the role of feedback in improving performance, and highlighting the use of rubrics to achieve comprehensive and fair assessment
