The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basra held a lecture on the quality of education for the seventh unit of the teaching methods course, part of the updated curriculum for the southern region within the educational specialization.
The aim of the lecture, which is part of the teaching methods course within the updated curriculum for the southern region in the educational specialization, was to define the concept of quality in education, identify its components, and understand the interactive relationship between these components. These are expected to form the basis for diagnosing and determining the improvement requirements of the educational process.
The lecture, presented by Dr. Zainab Faleh Salem, a faculty member at the College of Education for Humanities and Psychology, explained the concept of quality in education as an administrative philosophy aimed at achieving excellence in the overall performance of the institution by meeting the needs of clients and employees. The reasons for the interest in applying total quality management in higher education include the need to achieve high performance in the educational process, the massive quantitative expansion in the number of higher education institutions, the continuous and successive increase in the number of students enrolling in higher education, the ongoing need for continuing education and knowledge acquisition post-graduation, and the intense competition among educational institutions.
In conclusion, the recommendation was made to improve the components of the educational process to ensure quality and accreditation issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. These components include faculty members, students (in terms of student affairs and student services), academic programs and teaching methods, and the university textbook.
