The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basra held a lecture on professional ethics for the sixth unit of the teaching methods course, part of the updated curriculum for the southern region within the engineering specialization.
The aim of the lecture, which is part of the teaching methods course within the updated curriculum for the southern region, was to distinguish between ethics and professional ethics, understand the specific ethics related to education and the specialization, and to provide an informed reading of the clauses of the professional ethics charter. It also aimed to develop skills in ethical behavior, identify the main components of establishing an ethical system, and understand how to make ethical decisions.
The lecture, presented by Dr. Uday Basheer Issa, a faculty member at the College of Engineering at the University of Basra, included:
- Definition of ethics and professional ethics
- The main sources of ethics and professional ethics and the difference between them
- Unethical violations in the teaching profession – causes, remedies, and the main components of establishing an ethical system
- A model for making ethical decisions and the professional ethics charter for the teaching profession and its principles and connections
- The importance of work ethics for the individual
- Global codes of conduct in the engineering profession
