The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basra organized a course on information and data security.

The aim of the course was to provide a basic introduction to the concepts of information and data security, internet network security, and the methods used in this field. This is a modern topic that is essential to know in this age due to the spread of computing, computer applications, and the internet in its various forms, and the use of smart devices. Information and data security is the science that researches theories and methods of protecting data and information, and puts in place the necessary tools and procedures to ensure their protection. It also contributes to the development of legislation that prohibits attacks on information and punishes those who do so.

 

The course, presented by lecturer Rafid Mohammed Khalifa, included an explanation of information security concepts, information security elements, major information security threats, states' systems in combating cyber crimes, encryption systems types, wireless network encryption systems, and the most important means of protecting internet applications and information system components. The course also covered risks, attacks, threats, and weaknesses in the information environment, cybercrimes and their classifications, hackers and their types, types of attacks, and the means of protection against them. Access control systems and their main elements such as identity verification, passwords, and biometric measurements were discussed, as well as physical and material access control systems, servers and their types, and methods of protection.

 

Other topics included in the course were security locks in various details for storing information devices, surveillance camera security, harmful programs and tools for information security, virus protection methods, website and online file scanning, spam email and its risks, current challenges in information security, and the future of information and data security. In conclusion, the recommendation was made to complete a course in information and data security, and to advise others on the importance of digital security, following safe practices to protect privacy and combat cyber threats. These practices reflect the importance of protecting personal and institutional information and data in our advanced digital world, and the commitment of individuals and companies to these practices can contribute to reducing cyber attacks and enhancing digital security
